Adventures of Old Mr. Toad (Dover Children's Thrift Classics)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (September, 1998)
Average review score:

Not as good as Beatrix PotterReading these books was fun for me as a child but I never enjoyed them as much as Beatrix Potter. The english author wrote in a more mature, fairy tale style that children could still relate to while these books have more of a folk tale background. However, some of Burgesses books are better than this one and I urge you to read Reddy Fox instead of Mr Toad.
Old Mr. Toad is very FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Old Mr. Toad puzzle's Peter Rabit a LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ferst,he thingk's that Old Mr. Toad's baby's are Grandfather Frog's baby's,then, he see's some food of Old Mr. Toad disoper, but, it is rilley just his SUPER fast tonge! And near the end of the book,Old Mr. Toad is towt a lessn.(If you want to see another ravuw, cheek in Little Joe Otter.) name: Gregor. age: six ,or, 6

Anne Orr's Afghans to Crochet and Knit (Dover Needlework Series)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (August, 1987)
Average review score:

A classicThat said, I would not have bought this in a real life bookstore. Photos are mostly black & white, which makes them hard to follow. Directions are sketchy by modern standards. Lastly I am a knitter and they are mostly crocheted afghans.
This is an early 20th century book of afghan patternsAnne Orr's Afghans to Knit and Crochet is a classic that no needleworker's library should be without. Even if you never make one of these afghans, the designs can be used in so many ways. There is a chart of an Old English Alphabet. I can see one big, bold initial crocheted into a seat cover. If you lke to cross-stich, try the beautiful horse head motif taken from the sleigh robe, and work it onto a denim shirt. The children will be delighted with an Unusual Afghan depicting circus motifs. Most of the crocheted afghans are worked in the Tunisian stitch. The knitted patterns are easy but there is a patternfor a baby afghan that includes a lacey edging the looks a bit advanced. Ann Orr was a prolific pattern writer and here you will find samples of her best known work. There are black and white photos and illustrations. The front and back cover are in color.

Basketball Stickers (Dover Little Activity Book)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (March, 1993)
Average review score:

Aunt's review - bought for mixed race nephew and nieceDisappointing. Poor value for money (as compared with sheets of stickers available in stores e.g. Hallmark) as only four sheets of stickers in a small book. Paler colors used in the drawings, so the whole effect is more low key than POW. Hard for younger kids to see what is meant to be shown. Some attempt at depiction of multicultural kids, but mainly confined to differences in hair color.
Great Stricker Bokk for KidsThis Basketball stickers are great for the kids to play with. my children love this line of sticker books! many stickers inside with all difedrnt things. try it!

Egyptian Charted Designs (Dover Needlework Series)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (November, 1992)
Average review score:

Some good Egyptian gods to stitchThis book contains just enough good patterns of Egyptian gods, animals and a couple of cobras to make it worth the price. The patterns, however, are small, dark and hard to read. I will find it necessary to make enlarged copies and color them.
Nice for a beginning book on EgyptIt seems that Egypt is "in" this season and this book is a good place to begin. There are some very simple designs plus some harder projects. This book is a nice and inexpensive place to begin.

Egyptian Designs (Dover Pictorial Archive)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (October, 1993)
Average review score:

Egyptian designsthis book is filled with mostly black and white pictures. if you are getting this book to use to draw egyptian designs keep in mind that alot of the designs are very small and hard to draw and the bigger ones are even harder because of all the details. however it is a nice book to look at. but if i were you i'd wait till it go's on sale
Excellent for graphic artistsI found this little book to be just what I was looking for in the way of Egyptian graphic designs for use in my jewelry work. Many interesting black and white designs to choose from.

Fun With Trees Stencils (Dover Little Activity Books)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (March, 1993)
Average review score:

Pretty and UsefulThis sturdy little book contains six precut, convenient stencils of trees. The designs themselves are bold and simple without being vague, and are a nice size for many projects. I used them to put a forest scene on one of my windows with dry-erase markers, but you'll find other creative uses. Included here are a balsam fir, a palm, the Monterey Cypress, a sugar maple, a white oak, and an apple tree.
nice basic designsThere are six tree stencils here, cut into heavy laminated paper. All are disconnected stencils, having separations between elements. The stencils are: white oak (3.5 inches high and 4 inches wide), white oak (5 inches high and 3.5 inches wide), ssugar maple (5 inches high and 3 inches wide), apple (3.5 inches high and 4.5 inches wide), balsam fir (4.5 inches high and 3.5 inches wide) and a cypress (3+ inches high and 4.5 inches wide). The cypress, white oak and balsam fir are pictured on the cover, left to right. Depending on your project, you might want to shrink these basic designs a bit, but you can't beat this price for getting some good basic stencils.

Heraldry: A Pictorial Archive for Artists and Designers (Dover Pictorial Archive Series)
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (December, 1991)
Average review score:

Artists book not for researchersIf you want to know what different styles of family emblems people have had this is a great book. If you want to know anything about the individual designs (whos it was, where it is from, age of origin), this is not the book. The book is 70% black and white and 30% color. It would be great for an artist, not a researcher.
A feast for the eyesLike all Dover publications, I was not disappointed when I picked up this book. The illustrations themselves are rich and detailed, truly a feast for the eyes, for any artist or craftsperson. The helpful text and detailed descriptions make the book easy to use and very enjoyable. This book makes a fantastic suplement to the "Design Your Own Coat of Arms" by Rosemary A. Chorzempa (Dover), because it gives you a great wealth of ideas from which to work. I highly reccommend this book to anyone who has an interest in heraldry, you won't be disappointed.

Love's Labour's Lost
Published in Paperback by Cambridge Univ Pr (Pap Txt) (June, 1969)
Average review score:

Funny, but too lovey-doveyLike most of Shakespeare's comidies, LLL involved a couple of very independent women falling in love with a couple of guys who were in love with them too. It also brought mistaken identities into play and, like A Midsummer Night's Dream, it had a play within the play. The humor was mostly in the form of puns, most of which were hard to understand the first time through. The ending was really bad, though, because the girls didn't get together with the guys like they should have if Shakespeare had planned a happy ending. All-in-all, I would only recommend this play for really serious Shakespearean scholars, as it is almost too dense for us laypeople
wittythis is witty play about four guys who vow to sequester themselves for three years in serious study, but who are forced to forswear their vows when four attractive women show up and upset their plans. the humor is mainly in the form of wordplay, as only shakespeare can do, and the verbal jousting between berowne and his lady is especially entertaining, and anticipates the tete-a-tetes between petruchio and katherina in "taming of a shrew" and benedick and beatrice in "much ado about nothing". definitely worth a read, and if you can get it, the bbc television production of LLL is also worth seeing. last of all, i disagree with the other poster who complained of the ending. i thought it was pretty clear that the couples would get together in a year's time. so the ending was implicitly happy. only someone who is accustomed to instant gratification could find fault with it.
